Paint markers are a blast! They are basically sharpies with a whole heck of a lot of ink. Try them out!

I would recommend using sharpies. I love just a simple black marker...and sharpies are my favorite. I would probably test a small piece of wood first, just to make sure it's the outcome you want. I know they also have paint markers now. But I have never tried those, so I can't tell you how well they work.
